I ventured into the unknown this week and launched my podcast, You Have the Power: The Road to Recovery from Trauma and Narcissistic Abuse. It's always scary when you try something new but it also brings a sense of accomplishment when it's completed. I still have quite a bit of learning to do since this is the first time I've edited audio tracks and used podcast host software. I'm taking it one bite at a time. I'll do a few solo episodes to get used to the editing process then I'll move to having guests on the show. As my comfort level increases, I'll upgrade to doing video podcasts instead of just audio. The plan is to cover various topics of trauma, narcissistic abuse and healing tips and techniques.
All of this got started because I was referred to a free set of trainings for small businesses. One of the speakers recommended that I submit requests to be a guest on podcasts. I put it off for about a month because it felt overwhelming but finally did a search on Facebook as recommended and found a podcast collaborative. To date, I am scheduled to be a guest on 10 podcasts so keep checking back because each guest appearance will also be posted on my webpage. I decided to get a paid membership with the collaborative so that I can network with other podcasters. The seed was planted and I decided that even though I know absolutely nothing about podcasting or how to go about producing a show, I started taking steps to have my own.
In the course that I'm taking to complete an additional certification as a somatic trauma informed coach, we are learning about the growth vs. fixed mindset. This could be a post all on its own but essentially folks with a fixed mindset get in their own way and have a narrow way of thinking and aren't willing to take chances to try new things. Folks with a growth mindset believe anything is possible and are solution oriented. I decided to take the growth mindset approach to his new venture. Between the training videos on YouTube and the hosting software as well as my networking with other podcasters, I am slowly figuring it out. It may not be perfect but I'm sure the quality of the show will improve as time goes on.
The process of being a guest on multiple podcasts has been an enriching experience. Not only has it given me a platform to speak my truth, it has also exposed me to other people who have overcome challenges and are sharing their stories. Since I'm targeting podcasts that focus on personal growth, overcoming adversity and healing, I have met some amazing powerful people from all over the world. The beauty of wifi and Zoom is that the world has gotten so much smaller. Some of these discussions have given me goosebumps and have deeply inspired me.
The blessing of embarking on the unknown is that you never know what's going to happen in the process. I seem to be manifesting amazing things in all areas of my life lately. When a door of opportunity presents itself, I take a deep breath and walk through it. There are a lot of unknowns in my life right now, but I am okay with that because every day my life becomes richer and more joyful and those unknowns are propelling me towards positive change.
